Police Scotland have recently carried out an extensive consultation with the public in relation to what concerns them most. Amongst the concerns raised was that of Terrorism.
The current threat from international terrorism towards the UK had been assessed as SUBSTANTIAL, meaning an attack is likely. Please note that there is no current intelligence to suggest any specific threat to Scotland.
Groups inspired by both Domestic and International extremism have been encouraged to use a variety of attack methods – from the use of explosive devices, knives and firearms to using a vehicle as a weapon.
This highlights the need for us to continue to work together and benefit from our strong links to keep each other safe. Although no one is exempt, history tells us that crowded places premises are a specific target. As such we need to ensure that everyone within our communities remain vigilant and are aware how to protect themselves if the need arises. Police Scotland’s message remains the same –
“Be alert, not alarmed” and “Be vigilant and report suspicious behaviour”.
