The Checkin group was conceived in 2007 as a partnership between Essential Edinburgh, The Balmoral Hotel and Police Scotland with a view to tackle all types of hotel crime in Edinburgh.
Our aim is to create a safe and secure environment for the residents, staff and visitors within our hotels. We currently have over 120 active member hotels. The objectives of our group are to:
– Prevent and detect crime
– Assist in the apprehension and/or prosecution of offenders
– Strengthen the relationships between police and hoteliers
– Share information about those suspected of committing criminal acts within our hotels
Checkin is designed to prevent crime by using the sharing of information in real-time between members. If a crime does take place, the Checkin network allows the sharing of information including CCTV images with all members almost instantaneously, with the aim to prevent repeat offenders high on our agenda.
There have been numerous arrests made as a result of the Checkin group, with criminals receiving substantial custodial sentences.
There is no fee to join Checkin and we welcome new member hotels from not just within the Essential Edinburgh area, but all across Edinburgh.
