Johnnie Walker Experience Information Event for Local Businesses

Thursday 17th January 2019

From 5pm to 8pm

The Cellar Room, Principal Hotel, Charlotte Square

Diageo will be hosting a special information event for local businesses and Essential Edinburgh members on Thursday 17th January, at which they will share their vision for a new global flagship visitor attraction for Johnnie Walker, the world’s biggest selling Scotch whisky brand.

The aim is to create the major new visitor attraction in the former department store building at 145 Princes Street – one of Edinburgh’s most important landmark buildings at the west end of Princes Street – and Diageo are looking to engage all local stakeholders ahead of progressing formal plans to outline their vision, gather feedback and where possible to answer any questions about the proposed development.

Representatives of Diageo will be on hand to answer your questions and warmly invite you to join them. Ian Smith, Head of Corporate Relations at Diageo, Scotland said:

“You may be aware from previous announcements, Diageo is investing £150 million in its Scotch whisky visitor attractions in Scotland, the biggest single investment programme of its kind ever seen in the sector. The aim of this investment programme is to transform the visitor experience at our 12 distillery visitor attractions across Scotland and to create a global flagship visitor experience for Johnnie Walker in Edinburgh, putting Scotland and its capital city at the forefront of the global boom in food and drink tourism.

We believe this is a significant development for Edinburgh, generating powerful economic opportunities for the city, particularly at the west end of Princes Street. As key local stakeholders we want to ensure you get to see our exciting proposals at the earliest opportunity and to keep you fully informed as we progress our plans.

The event will be run on an informal drop-in format, so please feel free to come along to the Principal Hotel at a time of your convenience between 5pm – 8pm on Thursday 17th January.

We look forward to meeting you then.”
