The START in St Andrew Square festival has been organised to launch the national START initiative established by HRH The Prince of Wales to promote and celebrate sustainable living.

Start in St Andrew Square will take place in St Andrew Square Garden from Saturday 4 – Monday 6 September, we hope to encourage individuals to make a Start with sustainable living and demonstrate the benefits from developing sustainable behaviour.

Start in St Andrew Square will include a wide range of activities workshops, exhibits and events showcasing how everyone can cut down on waste and conserve natural resources at home, in the garden and at work. There will be some producers from Edinburgh Farmers’ Market and lots of entertainment. You will also be able to get a full MOT for your bicycle from the Bike Station’s Dr Bike and there will be fashion displays from acclaimed local designers Joey Dee and Fabhatrix.

Entertainment On Saturday 4th September will include:

The Clan
The Clan is a Mountain Bike, BMX and Trials cycling display team offering the most exciting and daring bike shows in the UK. 5 riders with unique styles are led by Danny Macaskill, from the Isle of Skye, arguably the most talented bike rider in Britain and a street trials rider of international standard.
20 minute shows at 13:00, 14:30, 16:00

Forest Creatures Show
Educational puppet shows with environmental themes to present topical issues for families.
12:30, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30, 16:30, 17:30

Edinburgh International Science Festival
Two presenters will be performing half hour shows on climate change on the busking carts.

Mischief la-Bas
Throughout the day there will be wondering “sales” characters, these cheeky chappies will try to sell you their wares – but watch out, as they may not be completely legitimate!
